Review Criteria
I will base my review here on a number of criteria that I have determined (thus far) to be important in the evaluation of the usefulness of a pistol safe (lock box).  I have not given any of these factors more importance than others because each use will determine what factors are important to them.  I have merely tried to identify all the factors that people might consider when making an educated decision on which safe to use in protecting a firearm from unwanted use.

Here's a list of the criteria that I have identified so far.

Number of possible combinations - Night time opening - Surface mounting - Portability - Number of guns held - Quiet Operation - Interior Lighting - Overall Security - Battery Power - Weight - Tamper Alert

Initial Observations

The fine people at Ft. Knox were kind enough to send me a demo of their new pistol lockbox (safe) for my review.  My first thought upon finding it on my doorstep was that it was very heavy.  I kept thinking to myself that a heavier safe was harder to cut or drill through than a lighter safe made with less steel.

I got the box open and found that it was made to fit the safe perfectly.  The size fit inside like a glove.  Very nice.  For some reason I always like it when companies have boxes made for their products rather than using whatever is lying around with a bunch of packing peanuts.

Since the box was so tight around the lockbox it took a little wriggling to get my fingers in there enough to pull it out of the box.  When I finally got it out of the box, I beheld a marvelously heavyweight and well finished lock box.
